Founded in Glasgow in 1919 the Knights of St. Columba is
the largest Order of Catholic laymen in the United Kingdom,
spread over about 450 local Councils in some 30 regional
Provinces and all governed by one Supreme Council.
As stated on an earlier page the Knights of St. Columba is
an organisation of Catholic men who have joined together to
serve their Church, their priest, each other and their
parish community as well as their fellow men, in charity
and fraternity. It is a Charity Registered in Scotland
SC017407.
Although they have a mission to support the Roman Catholic
church their charitable efforts are ecumenical. Working
both in local groups and on a national level the Knights
take a special interest in the welfare and spiritual
development of young people. The main focus of
charitable work is on local projects but each year the
Order undertakes to support a national scheme and the
current project is in raising funds for The Samaritans.
